Class Descriptions

Ballet
A classical syllabus utilizing repetitive choreographed exercises to music with techniques from the Russian and French schools. All classes begin with a barre and finish with center and across the floor combinations. The classes range in time from 45 minutes to 2 hours in length, depending on the level. The complexity of steps and degree of difficulty also increases through progression of class levels. Ballet is indeed the foundation for all types of dance, and is highly recommended.

Pointe
Pointe work is appropriate when a student is at least 11 years old, their growth plates have finished growing in their feet, and they take a minimum of two technique classes a week. The graduation to this level takes years of preparation and involves the strength and alignment of the body, not just the feet. Since this is highly individualized, the student is evaluated personally by the artistic director before progressing to this level.

This class is an introduction to movement through coordination and self expression. Rather than being imitative, creative movement seeks to foster the expressive abilities of children by equating them with the basic elements of dance: space, time, force, and body. Through this they also build muscle and coordinative development while teaching them to listen and take direction.
